QF's 744s, do they have the range?

Any questions about DFW or any of its carriers?

QF's 744s, do they have the range?

Postby TWABoy65 on Mon Sep 08, 2008 8:54 am

For years Qantas has been jerking DFW around with promises of starting a DFW flight. I have a friend who is a travel agent in Perth and in essence she says that QF at DFW is simply not going to happen. She also says that if Qantas really wanted DFW, then one of the myrid of the QF 744s (5) that sit on the ground at LAX, could have been used for a DFW run years ago. Also their 744s have the range for SYD/DFW/SYD.

Quite honestly, I am starting to believe that their might be something to what she is saying.

According to Wikipedia, Boeing's 747-400 and 747-400ER have ranges of 7,260 nautical miles and 7,670 NM respectively.
SYD-DFW (according to some guy at airliners.net, is 7454 nautical miles.
As for QF's SYD-DFW or MEL-DFW routes, when they get the 777-300ERs and they don't start one of those routes, then that's it. Your friend is right.

I checked the Boeing site. QF does not have any orders pending for any Boeing type as of today, 11/21/08. We will all have to wait a bit longer to see what happens. I have attached a link to the Boeing website for Orders and Deliveries.

http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm

This site also shows 36 737's for AA, but does not show their anything for the 787 order as of yet. It also shows 17 737's going to SWA.
