DFW Foreign Carrier Estimated July 2017 Loads

Postby Greg on Thu Sep 07, 2017 8:10 am

Here are the estimated load factors for the foreign carriers at DFW for July 2017. Decent loads cross the board for nearly everyone, although that is not a surprise in the middle of the summer. Now for Etihad, I am not including them this month as I cannot ascertain their seat counts. The EY Source site shows no flights from July 2-7, and the rest of the time shows 19 239-seat flights, five 237-seat flights and one 412-seat flight. OAG shows a schedule of 27 239-seat flights and four 412-seat flights, which I am not confident in. Since I can't reasonably come up with a decent estimate for them, they are not included this month.

How did we arrive at the data?
I took publicly available seat counts and other published data showing available data and came up with these estimates. I do not guarantee 100% accuracy, but I think we are fairly close to the true numbers. OAG, Various “Source” websites, airline sites etc.

AeroMexico – 51 flights with 99 seats, 11 flights with 96 seats
Air Canada - 150 flights with 73 seats, 31 flights with 75 seats
Avianca - 18 flights with 96 seats
British Airways - 28 flights with 337 seats, three flights with 275 seats
Emirates - 31 flights with 354 seats
Etihad - N/A
Interjet - 52 flights with 150 seats
Japan Airlines - 31 flights with 161 seats
Korean - 23 flights with 248 seats
Lufthansa - 31 flights with 216 seats
Qantas - 31 flights with 484 seats inbound and 355 seats outbound (lower outbound estimate for blocked seats)
Qatar - 31 flights with 358 seats
Volaris – 13 flights with 179 seats
WestJet - 14 flights with 113 seats, eight flights with 134 seats, five flights with 168 seats

Thanks again Greg. I do have a doubt this time, as you have the following seat data for Aeromexico:

AeroMexico – 51 flights with 99 seats, 11 flights with 96 seats

I do not recall Aeromexico Connect having any 96-seat aircraft. Could you please review your info?

On the other hand, I worked with your figures and reviewed the ones reported by the Mexican Aviation Authority (DGAC) as well, thus estimating American Airlines' load factors in the Mexico City - Dallas route:

43,505 total passengers transported in 310 flights made in the DFW-MEX-DFW route, averaging 140 passengers per flight and a load factor of approximately 87.7% (nice summer time!).

In terms of market share in the very same DFW-MEX-DFW route:

AAL..... 67.0%
AIJ..... 17.7%
SLI..... 15.3%

As for the DFW-GDL-DFW route, 16,233 passengers were transported during the month and my estimates show a 74% market share for American and the 26% remaining for Volaris. The approximate load factors were 75.7% for the former and 90.8% for the latter.

Kind regards.
