DFW Foreign Carrier Estimated January 2019 Loads

Postby Greg on Fri Mar 08, 2019 1:39 pm

Here are the estimated load factors for the foreign carriers at DFW for January 2019. What immediately stands out is Japan Airlines and their 102% departing load factor. How can this be? Well of course, it cannot. I've been calculating Japan's numbers using the 195 seats 787-9 on the route, which is showing up in various schedules, OAG etc. However, there is a 205 seat version as well, so perhaps that is now being used on the DFW-NRT run. IF that is the case, put Japan at 6,293 seats and 90.23% inbound, 97.92% outbound, and 94.07% overall. If someone in the know can confirm what JL is using on DFW, please let me know.

Either way, Japan Airlines continues to see tremendous performance on the route, I wonder how they are doing on cargo as well. If it is like American's two daily DFW-NRT, the answer would be outstanding.

How did we arrive at the data?
I took publicly available seat counts and other published data showing available data and came up with these estimates. I do not guarantee 100% accuracy, but I think we are fairly close to the true numbers. OAG, Various Source websites, airline sites etc.

Assumptions:
AeroMexico - 62 flights with 99 seats
Air Canada - 149 flights with 76 seats
Avianca - 31 flights with 96 seats
British Airways – 26 flights with 226 seats
Emirates - 31 flights with 354 seats
Icelandair - five flights with 183 seats
Interjet - 52 flights with 150 seats, four flights with 192 seats
Japan Airlines - 31 flights with 195 seats
Korean - 18 flights with 291 seats
Lufthansa - 27 flights with 255 seats
Qantas – 31 flights with 484 seats inbound and 355 seats outbound (lower outbound estimate for blocked seats)
Qatar – 21 flights with 358 seats, 10 flights with 354 seats
Volaris - 18 flights with 179 seats

I checked a couple of future flights next week, and the seat map shows 44/35/116, for 195 seats. Not sure what they did.

Maybe one or two days they switched in a bigger plane or something.
