Southwest dropping some cities out of Love

Postby JGFrisco on Fri Sep 13, 2019 12:31 pm

Saw a report where Southwest is dropping flights to several cities out of Love, and making others seasonal only. The one that really jumped out at me was they bailed on flying to Oklahoma City out of Love, and they used to have a bunch.

Before the end of the Wright Amendment, Southwest did a lot of connections at Love, people flying from OKC to San Antonio and New Orleans to Amarillo. Their schedule seems to be more origin traffic now.

The other thing is that of the 186 departures they will have once these changes go into effect in January, only 87 will be to cities within the former Wright Amendment perimeter, and 98 will be outside of that.

As they have stopped having one-stop traffic through places like OKC, their traffic in the smaller markets has dropped like a stone. They are down to two flights a day to Little Rockand 4 to Amarillo, compared to 6 or 7 to each in the past.

Seems to be that SW is mostly abandoning the hub-and-spoke connections to American, and just going for local Dallas traffic now.
