WestJet dropping DFW as of June 27

Postby JGFrisco on Fri Feb 02, 2018 6:55 am

Westjet announced that they will go daily on the Calgary route this year. I haven't seen the operating dates yet.

May 2 - October 27, 2018.

WS1582 YYC1000 - 1431DFW
WS1583 DFW1525 - 1815YYC

Flights seem to be a mix again of 736, 737, and 738. I don't see the 737 MAX 8 listed.

According to a post in the airliners.net forums, Westjet will drop the DFW-YYC route on June 27th:

*WS DFW-YYC JUL 1.0>0 AUG 1.0>0 SEP 1.0>0 OCT 0.9>0

Actually, the last day for this is June 27th,

American (Envoy) will be the route's only operator, as currently is.

I went to their site and confirmed no more service after the June date.

Not surprising really, given their poor performance on the route. And looking at the numbers, won't be surprised if Interjet goes the same way.

Part of the problem is Interjet wants to be a low cost carrier but their fares are really high. I was looking into a long weekend at Ixtapa but they wanted almost a thousand bucks even with advance purchase. Then again maybe that's why they can afford to keep flying it with poor loads...

OK, I've updated the title of this thread.

Yes, WestJet will start April 30 and end June 27, so just two months instead of running through the end of August. Looks like the same thing is happening on their Calgary-Boston route as well. I was honestly more surprised they came back the last year or two with such disappointing load factors. Of course, no idea of yield, but at this point it is fairly obvious it wasn't good enough.

So DFW will have lost Etihad and WestJet this year, but brings on Icelandair and WOW Air in May, so even on balance.

Forgot all about FI and WW. Still, with AA throwing itself into the KEF mix, does anyone really believe that all three carriers will maintain the DFW-KEF service?
