So, where is our A380?
So, where is our A380?
Today is a big day down in Houston with the arrival of Lufthansa's A380 service. So, what about Texas's true gateway to the world, DFW? When and who?
Re: So, where is our A380?
Wow..nothing?!
No disrespect, but this has to be the deadest airport related forum on the net.

I would think BA is the best shot eventually, then Emirates maybe. But I'm pretty sure DFW is not set to handle A380's on a regular basis. Seems like they're holding off making the modifications till someone commits to bringing in the 380 but nobody wants to commit when DFW isn't ready.
Re: So, where is our A380?
Welcome to DFW Tower, TPA! There are always rumors of QF starting 380s to DFW, but I think at the earliest it would be when they get the next batch of deliveries, as they have different weights and such. This would certainly be the route for it! I'd love to see QF run a mix of 787s, 380s and 744s on the route, but that's probably highly unrealistic.
As for BA, I'm not sure. They may add another frequency, who knows. I think with BA/AA teaming up on the route essentially, they are looking more for frequencies than larger planes. EK would be a good bet I would think - the route to DXB is apparently doing well, in fact, a second run has been rumored for ages now. They certainly have plenty of 380s now and coming in the future, they may well throw one on DFW.
I believe the airport has made some minor modifications lately in regards to 380 handling. Whether or not they could land one and service it today I don't know for sure.

Re: So, where is our A380?
I think the main modification is preparing a gate...
I would love to see qantas but the load reports always seem light to promote the bigger plane. Know a tour player that commutes back and forth a dozen times a yr and says the plane is always empty.
Side note... I've heard, reports on the 747 not being able to consistently make it w/o stopping for fuel. I've heard they have to stop almost once a week. Any insight on that?
I'm surprised ek hasn't started a second flight. I know the rumors float around terminal D every week. Maybe theyre waiting to fly the 380 instead of going to twice daily. And they do have the inventory to bring it to Dallas.
Good point on BA with AA. They do seem to focus on the frequency. But maybe in the mix if the merger somehow the allocation leaves room for the 380 down the road. I know BA is turning a profit on the flight and are overbooked most days. It's def a popular route
I think once we get one more carriers will follow suit

According to a February 10, 2014 post in Bond Buyer DFW airport is making gate arrangements for an October 2014 arrival of an A380.
