The old Airtrans system

Post by longhorn »

DFW Skylink replaced the original automated mobile system named Airtrans, used to move people around the airport. Yet much of the system's guideways still exist. What are they going to do with the guideways as they renovate the terminals ? What did they do at Terminal A?

I hadn't realized that, interesting to see it being removed. It serves no real purpose now, but I had sort of figured the cost of taking it out would be high and the airport would just let it sit. Good to hear.

Thanks for the welcome, I have a soft spot for the old Airtrans system, and when driving through DFW last weekend noticed the new Dart station at Terminal A where the guideway used to be and it got me thinking. I guess they will remove the guideways and old stations as they make their way around the terminal complex when remodeling them. There is still a station structure between the old tower and Terminal D and guideways,in time I guess it will be removed.

In the parking lot behind the post office, there are 5-6 old Air Trans cars just sitting there collecting dust. I keep thinking how cool would it to be to have one of those as a mancave or a small cabin for the lake.
