As most of you know, on August 2, 1985, a Delta L-1011(N726DA) crashed on short final short to runway 17C, (then 17L) - the probable cause was wind shear, and the results were catastrophic.

I was out at the site the other day and was surprised that there's no marker or any kind of memorial to the 135 pax, aircrew (and a person on the ground) that perished.
Does anyone here know of any efforts, past or present, to mark this site? Just wondering if there are any markers inside the fence perimeter that are not open to the public, or if anyone has any personal recollections of the incident they might be willing to share?

Re: Delta 191 Memorial
I am not aware of any efforts, but I would have to think the airport wouldn't want to really highlight this? I would also be curious though if there was ever any attempt to put up a sign or memorial of some sort as well.

Re: Delta 191 Memorial
IIRC, back in the mid-90s there was a mention of wanting to erect a memorial at the site. 10 years later it hasn't happened. Wonder why those involved in the accident and those affected by it are not clamoring loud enough for a memorial?
Re: Delta 191 Memorial
Thanks for the info. It kind of surprised me too that there wasn't a plaque, or a small meditation/prayer area. The crash was such a tragedy, but on-board Doppler implementation and LLWS awareness were certainly productive by-products. I drive by the site on TX-114 and on Airfield Drive over by the FedEx ramp all the time and can't help but think of the chaos...
Re: Delta 191 Memorial
I heard from a friend that used to work in the building next to the spot where DL191 first touched down that there was a marker at the spot of touchdown, but I never got to see it myself. Now there are buildings in that location and I'm sure the marker is probably gone.

There is a memorial marker of the crash in Founders Park. See the article below:

It would be good if they had memorials for the following crashes at DFW or Great Southwestern International Airport (just south of current day DFW)
