Windshield wipers on Skylink

Post by ParadisA330 »

Hello,
Why are there windshield wipers on the skylink? Do they ever "turn on" during rain? Is it because there might be a situation where the skylink may break, which could be during a storm, and it would need to be driven by a human and wipers will be needed? Also saw this at FRA on their Skylink (or whatever they call it).

Yes, the wipers have been on since the Skylink debuted in 2005. I've seen them used during heavy rain, although it really must be for benefit the passengers seated in the front. After all, the Skylink is controlled by computers, there is no case when a driver would board that I am aware of. Unless there are some hidden panels I'm not aware of.

When riding to the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow I noticed their train system was nearly identical to that of Skylink. The cars were the exact same, although Heathrow's lacked seats if memory serves.
